Milestones of a Giant

Dr. Robert Joe "Bobby" Clark, born July 16, 1939, in Glade Springs, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, with his wife by his side and surrounded by the love of his family. A man of strength, dignity, and deep compassion, he lived a life marked by purpose, service, and unwavering commitment to others. From his early days on the basketball courts of Addison High School, Bobby's talent and determination shined. His exceptional performance earned him All-State honors and a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, where he played under legendary Coach Johnny McLendon and contributed to three consecutive national championships. His remarkable career was later recognized with induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024. He was also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. since his college days. Bobby earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Education, a Master's in Educational Guidance and Psychology, and ultimately his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Howard University. His career reflected his heart for people - serving as a counselor, educator, adjunct professor, attorney, Deputy Commissioner of the Erie County Detention Center, and later as a correction counselor and hostage negotiator with the New York State Department of Corrections. During this time in Buffalo, he also gave back through volunteer work with the Boys Club, mentoring youth and strengthening his lifelong commitment to community service. His 40 years of public service were honored when the City of Buffalo proclaimed July 19, 2008, as "Dr. Robert Joe Clark Day." He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Audrey D. Clark, and his children Kimberly, Marcus, Kelly, and Jonathan, who will forever carry his legacy of kindness, wisdom, and integrity. Though he achieved much, his greatest accomplishment was the love he gave and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
